Greta Gerwig plays Violet, the ringleader of the group who decides to take new student Lily (Analeigh Tipton) under her wing. Violet and her friends volunteer at a suicide prevention center as a part of their "Youth Outreach" where they pass out donuts and teach tap dancing to ward off depression. She hopes to invent a dance craze.

"I love playing characters because you get to do what they would do and dress how they would dress. I love the way Violet dresses—those longer skirts are so flattering. I remember many times looking around [at the rest of the cast] and we all said, "Why don't more people dress like this?"'

"I love flats in lots of different colors. To me, flats are like nail polish for your whole foot."

"Every time I've worn this Samantha Sung dress that I own, I get so many compliments. I found it in a boutique in L.A. [Her dresses are] all made out of cotton so they're very easy to wash."

"I also feel good wearing men's clothes. It makes me feel powerful. I think well-tailored slacks and a button-down shirt look really nice."

Carrie MacLemore plays Heather, a sweet, understanding girl who thinks she can teach her fratty boyfriend Thor to understand the difference between the colors. He's very easily confused by them.

"I love dresses. I'm always pro-dress because it's just one piece to worry about. And actually, it was an article from Lucky that sparked my obsession with [the dresses from] Modcloth.com."

"For vintage shopping, I love The Family Jewels on 23rd Street in New York. I've gotten some really fun pieces there. I wore a dress to my engagement party this past summer that was from there."

"I'm short so I always go for a fitted silhouette. The wardrobe designer [for Damsels in Distress, Ciera Wells] really turned me on to the whole idea of the pencil skirt, the high-waisted skirt especially. Now I love to do high-waisted skirts."

Carrie MacLemore

"[My costumes in the movie] are prim and ladylike—my personal favorites. We were doing fittings and Ciera sent out inspiration boards. It was Grace Kelly; it was Audrey Hepburn."

Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) is often the voice of reason and principle in the group. She is constantly on the lookout for "playboy operator types" who might try to fool her friends into falling for them.

"I'm really into this designer called Nami. She's an emerging designer, and I recently met her and I just really love her designs. She's got kind of a minimalist style, but it's still very sexy and flirty."

"I really love sheer lip colors because I have big lips, so I really like to downplay them. One of my favorite new products is this lip scrub. You can go to the bathroom and scrub your lips with this yummy sugar scrub and then you put on a nude, sheer, tingly lip balm—it's the best thing on the planet!"

Megalyn Echikunwoke

"I love Chantecaille, they have these really beautiful palettes. Some of the palettes are in the design of an endangered animal and a certain percent of the proceeds go to help endangered animals."

"A lot of us [in the movie] wear neck scarves tied to the side—love that. I have one vintage Hermès scarf that is very perfect for spring."

As a new transfer student at Seven Oaks, Analeigh Tipton's character Lily is a reluctant damsel. She'd much rather hang out with the French boy Xavier she met last summer—even though he has a jealous girlfriend who is always around.

Analeigh Tipton

"Right now my obsession is finding really sweet, delicate blouses and pairing them with something edgy. Marc Jacobs did this skirt that's kind of sweet but is made out of a weird material."

Analeigh Tipton

"I like odd pairings, like a really grungy t-shirt and shoes with a really nice blazer. Things that contradict each other is what I'm leaning towards for spring."

"I'm also trying to get on the color-block thing. Having a hard time doing it, but I love color more than straight black."

Analeigh Tipton

"[Damsels in Distress] was a fun film for us to do in terms of the fashion. I had this orange golden dress that I wore for one of the date dance numbers and it had a popped collar and they had my hair in a classic bun. I loved that. It was very Audrey Hepburn."
