Lucky Stars: Diane Kruger at the Cannes Film Festival

Instead of the typical celebrity outfit of leather jackets, striped t-shirts and dark wash jeans, Diane Kruger wears tricky things so constantly that "maverick" is the only way to describe her uniform. At this point—after crop tops, fedoras and full-on lady tuxedos—her outfit yesterday at the Cannes Film Festival shouldn't really be surprising.

For a photo call, Diane tied herself into a lace-up dress made from more string than fabric. It's the kind of thing that would make my father pop either a blood vessel or a Xanax if he saw me wearing it, but somehow, she looked more pretty than Coyote Ugly.

Of course, it helps that she's Diane Kruger and that the dress is a high-quality construction from Versus, the slightly more affordable Versace offshoot. But I also think the dress worked so well because of the way she styled it—pairing it with those sporty yet pretty Jimmy Choo shoes, keeping her hair loose and wavy and slipping on just one simple bangle.

Even though the dress is racier than, say, an Herve Leger bandage dress, it looked pretty awesome when worn in such a pared back, sporty way.  (Also, Diane's a Karl Lagerfeld muse, and no one with that halo can ever look crass or vulgar, ever.)
