Leelee Sobieski on Shopping for Big Feet and Going Sans Stylist

At last night's launch of The Shops at Target, the superstore unveiled its new shop-in-shop concept that's set to launch both in-brick and online on Sunday, May 6. In between snacking on caramels from San Francisco's The Candy Store, checking out the display of suspended plates from Privet House, and admiring the palm tree-printed separates from Miami's The Webster—all of which will be carried at Target's new mini-boutiques—we caught up with actress and style star Leelee Sobieski.

Recently, Leelee's been hitting the red carpet in amazing looks from Jil Sander and Band of Outsiders. Add her marriage to menswear designer Adam Kimmel to the equation, and it's clear this girl knows her stuff when it comes to style. So I had to ask her a couple questions about—what else?—shopping.

Lucky: First and foremost, I just overheard you joking with a friend about your size-10 feet. That's my shoe size, too—it makes it hard to find shoes. We're "sole sisters!"

Leelee Sobieski: That's awesome—I like what you did there! Yeah, the problem with size-10 feet is that when you wear flats, they always make them look bigger. But if you're tall and wear heels, then you end up way too tall and you scare people. Rochas actually makes really great slippers that, because of the way they're cut, make your feet look really feminine. And then The Webster's espadrilles for Target are really great. They only go up to a size nine, actually, but those'll fit size 10s. They're really comfortable—plus, when you take them off, it looks like you have size-9 feet.

I love all of your recent red carpet outfits. Do you work with a stylist?

Nope—it's all me, on my own. I ask my husband's advice too. But the mirror in my apartment's a problem when I'm getting dressed—I still don't have a full-length mirror, so I can never see my shoes in it. I usually end up standing on a chair just to see how they look.

What are you wearing tonight?

An old Adam Kimmel jumpsuit, which I hope doesn't look too wrinkled—and a jacket from The Webster's Target collection, plus Hermès boots and a Céline bag.

What's your favorite thing to buy at Target?

I love that you can pick up beauty products there that are sometimes hard to find at little drugstores. I love Revlon Just Bitten lip stain and Maybelline's Great Lash mascara especially.

If you could pick any designer to collaborate with Target, who would it be?

Probably my husband. He did a collaboration with Carhartt before, but I can see him doing Target someday. too. It would look so cool.

Lastly...are you headed to the Met Ball next Monday?

I'm not sure yet. If I find the right thing to wear, yes. But if not, I'll just stay home and cuddle and eat ice cream—which I think might be better, honestly.
