Make Room For Fashion: Summer Scarves
There’s a mom in my son’s playgroup who always, without a doubt, shows up to class looking fresh-faced and put together. I should mention that, in addition to having a toddler like me, she also just had another baby. I, on the other hand, am often so rushed trying to convince my son to change out of his Thomas the Tank Engine pajamas and get out the door, that I sometimes throw on whatever I didn’t hang up yesterday. So I’ve been keeping my eye on this mom and I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out her secret–bright, patterned, sometimes fringed, sometimes tasseled, lightweight summer scarves.
I know, I know, you’ve been hearing about this versatile accessory for seasons now, and every fashion magazine out there has already extolled the numerous styling abilities of the lightweight scarf, but I am here to reinforce what works, what’s easy and what can take jeans and a tank where you want them to actually go.
I asked Tiffany Bainbridge, buyer and manager for Pas De Deux, one of my favorite downtown boutiques in NYC, to give me the scoop on what makes this simple accessory fresh again.
“Bold colors paired with really vibrant prints are big this season,” she says. “People are ready to break away from black and kick up their wardrobes with new colors like Limón, tangerine, and cobalt blue.”
Lightweight linen scarves by Rag & Bone and Isabel Marant have been hot sellers so far, and Bainbridge says to watch out for printed floral silks and brightly color blocked linen scarves by Grei and A Peace Treaty as we head into the summer months.
I guess it goes to show that sometimes mom’s do know best! Click through to shop some of our favorite summer scarves.
