Vintage Photos of Designers We Love
They're all household names now, but it wasn't always so. Becoming a major fashion designer is no easy task. You have to work extremely hard, know the right people and impress the unimpressed season after season. Of course, there are those few that make it all the way: Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and Oscar de la Renta. We dug into our photo archives to unearth a few of these masters in as youths, on the rise.

My aunt used to have a crush on Oscar de la Renta and would stalk him around the city. She tells this story to me every time I see her. Here he is in 1968.
