Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein at Macy's: The Complete Collection, Plus Pricing

This morning, I got a sneak peek at Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, a new collection created exclusively for Macy's. The all-dress capsule accompanies the department store's "A Magical Journey to Brasil" campaign—and it seems fitting that the Brazilian-born Costa, who has never designed a diffusion line before, went for this particular project.

"We wanted to keep it really sharp, really straightforward," Costa told me as we walked through the collection. "So we went with just two fabrics, a crepe and a viscose jersey, and I played off the idea of 'vacation style.'" That means spaghetti-strapped wrap dresses, colorblocked shifts and ankle-length mock turtleneck numbers, most cinched at the waist with a delicate bungee-cord-style belt.

"The color palette was very Brazil-inspired," said Costa when I mentioned the heavy use of grey, sand and pale yellow. "I was looking at this one picture of the Museum of Modern Art in Brazil, where the sun is hitting the pavement...and all the shades in that photo made up our palette. It's really sensual and sun-kissed."

The collection hits Macy's stores and Macys.com starting May 15—that's next Tuesday, people—and frankly, I can't wait. I go to a lot of preview events, but this was one that truly stood out in terms of quality and construction. So much so, in fact, that when I first walked in, I assumed I was looking at pieces from Calvin Klein Collection, Costa's runway line. "Obviously we had to do everything at a price without compromising on the design of it," the designer said. "The clothes are really sophisticated by simple, with lots of Calvin classics. And the fabric feel so great—there's a lot of weight to it." For dresses priced from $135 to about $180, that's no tiny feat.
