Narciso Rodriguez x Kohls: All the Details You Need to Know Now

Last week we learned that Kohls had tapped Narciso Rodriguez for its first high-end partnership. This morning, further details were released, complete with a few pictures from the upcoming line. Here's exactly what's happening:

The brand is going to be the first of many participants (Derek Lam is rumored to be next!) scheduled in the mega chain's new "Design Nation" program—a expensive-label-meets-fast-fashion model similar to what you've seen at H&M, Target and Macy's. The difference, however, is that the company is taking each designer to a city of their choice to gather inspiration. Rodriguez picked Istanbul and spent four days there, visiting museums and shopping bazaars.

"It was a really interesting idea to travel somewhere you had never been to before, and get your inspiration from a place that wouldn’t normally be in your comfort zone, bring that back and turn it into a collection," he told WWD about his trip. "I was completely inspired by the people, the city and all the different cultures."

The resulting collection, which is priced in the wallet-friendly $30 to $150 range, is full of vibrant prints and rich textures. The pieces are very different from his signature modrenist designs, but still beautiful. Ultimately, we think this will bring something very new to the collaboration scene: often designers present their newest ideas on the runway which are then watered down and reinvented throughout several seasons. Ideally, "Design Nation" will present shoppers freshly conceived styles, minus the RTW pricetag.

Below are two looks from Istanbul-inspired collection, available early next November. What do you think? Do you like Rodriguez-made outfits with a Turkish spin?
