Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: The Former Couple's Best Red Carpet Looks

Taking that year's Superheroes theme to heart, Katie paired her red Armani gown with bright cobalt heels. Snaps for appropriateness. (Meanwhile, it's unclear if Tom knows that "white tie" dress code doesn't actually mean wear a white tie.)

Katie's Escada dress would fit right in on the Great Gatsby set, in a good way.

And so the couple's coordination begins. (Although, how good is the burgundy color of Katie's leather jacket? Tom missed out.)

I love it when Joey Potter gets a little bit slick, like in this dress from her very own line, Holmes & Yang. To match her sleek look, Tom wore sunglasses at night. Naturally.

We obsessed over Clueless at the same time as Dawson's Creek, so we love a mashup of the worlds where Katie Holmes wears an Alaïa ("an a-what-uh?").

Like Emma Stone's red Lanvin dress with the exaggerated bow, Katie's white gown—also Lanvin, but vintage—is eye-catching and elegant. Tom countered with a white and navy combo of his own.

Katie chose one of the darkest, most sophisticated gowns that Monique Lhullier's made.

The sparkles are cool but the eccentric silhouette might be the best part of Katie's Armani Prive dress.

She looks natural and softer here than usual, in that mid '90s way I really like. Extra points for pairing that powder blue Ralph Lauren dress with a sweet little locket and undone hair. (And a husband in a  "I'm lowkey in a leather jacket" look.)

Tom looks dapper in that velvet jacket, but Katie commands the attention. I don't know what's better: the ruby red Alexander McQueen dress or choice to pair yellow shoes with it.

Pictures from this night—one of their last major appearances as a couple—will probably be all over the news. Good thing both Tom and Katie (in Elie Saab Couture) look pretty fabulous.
