Gucci Bought a Horse (of Course)!

In the wake of the Kentucky Derby and last weekend's Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic—and in anticipation of Saturday's Belmont Stakes—it seems the fashion world's been slightly obsessed with the equine species as of late. And we're guessing no design house is happier about this than Gucci, the label that's used a metal horsebit as its choice motif for years.

Now, the company's taking its horse love a step further, having purchased its very own stallion. According to WWD, the gorgeous horse (who you can see in the photo above) was originally named Vleut—but the folks at Gucci wasted no time in changing his moniker to Guccio, after house founder Guccio Gucci. Champion showjumper Edwina Alexander, who Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini actually dresses, is currently housing Guccio at her stables in Holland.

Perhaps to honor Gucci's new pet, Giannini's released a special Equestrian Collection of jodhpurs, riding boots, a saddle and even a coordinating helmet and riding crop set. Because obviously Guccio wouldn't dream of carrying, say, an Hermès saddle on his back.
