Snap Poll: Would You Mix Statement Necklaces and Swimwear?

The metallic collars that Karl Lagerfeld just designed for the London Olympics remind me, oddly, of bikinis and mojitos and all things South Beach instead.

It's not his fault; it has to do with last week. I was in Miami with American Express for Swim Week, and at one show, the jewelry stood out just as much as the bikinis and the impossibly perfect Brazilian avatars wearing them. Bouncing down the runway at Agua Bendita, collar necklaces (like the one in my horribly blurry photo) surprised me in a way they haven't in quite a while. (That's probably why I couldn't take a good picture.)

Afterwards I went running over to our Associate Market Editor, Noelle Sciacca, to bug her about them. Everyone in this office freaked out over collar necklaces last fall, tossing them over crewnecks and sweater dresses. But do they work as a summer thing—or, specifically, a beach thing?

I suppose, really, it's a larger question, not just about those vanguard collars but softer things too. Do statement necklaces of any kind work with swimsuits? They sort of kill the casual, laidback vibe of beachwear, but for people who feel boring accessorizing with just espadrilles and a bottle of sunscreen, maybe that's ideal. What about you: would you wear a statement necklaces with your bathing suit? And if so, which—any, all of these types?

That crackle allows you to get it wet without worrying about any wear and tear.
