Summer Packing Guide: London

I'm not going to London this summer, but my best friend is—her boyfriend's brother is on the U.S. equestrian team, which is as good an excuse any to hop over the pond for some in-person Olympics watching.

My advice to her is to pack light so she can fill her suitcase not just with kitschy souvenirs but also those pretty Olympics-themed goods. (And stuff from the fancy Mayfair boutiques, Notting Hill flea markets and high street shops, too—somehow, I swear, Topshop's just better over there.)

If she packs smart, though, she can do all that and not have to buy another suitcase at Heathrow. Below, my list of versatile pieces to build around: from a punchy pair of trousers to a mod shift, many are British-designed. In return, all I want is a pack of my favorite Brit candy (Smarties or Maltesers) and maybe some sort of giant foam Olympics souvenir. That'd be cool too.
