Under $50: Red Dresses

I don't remember where I was, years ago, when a gas station attendant nodded at my bright red dress, saying "every woman should own one that color."

What I do remember was how it came off: way more sage than sex offender. Truly. The man was paying a little respect to the power of the aggressively red dress.

Swinging the scale from Sarah Palin power suit-y to vampy, Baywatch babe, those candy-apple colored dresses are always a force. Whether its a corporate and powerful force or a flirty, pin-up one is a matter of cut. But either way, red dresses command attention. Every woman should own one, I think—they're a smart investment, even more so if they're under $50, like each of these options.

The high neckline and slightly slouchy shape relax it just enough.
