Couture by Sophie Debuts Its Doggie Designs During NYFW
Sure, Proenza Schouler doesn't make pooch-size pieces and the calendar creators at United Bamboo only hire felines, but your pup shouldn't despair. This year at NYFW, man's best friend will be included, too.
Next week, former music publicist Jody Miller's dog clothing line, Couture by Sophie, will make its runway debut during an accessories show at Chelsea's Glass Houses. Attendees will get an exclusive sneak peek at the label's new "Icons" collection, a selection of styles inspired by famous singers. Items include a zebra printed "Cher" coat and a silver "Elvis" jacket, for those days when the typical collar just won't do. Everything will be modeled by the designer's muse and pet, a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno named Sophie.
"This debut music-inspired line by Couture by Sophie is my whimsical way of paying homage to my many years working in the music industry with some of the most influential artists to date," Miller stated in a press release. "It is so thrilling to be presenting our first season of fabulous looks during Fashion Week and be able to bring them to retail this fall. Sophie and I couldn't be more excited."
If you can't make the show, the label's current collection is currently available to order via email or phone at Couturebysophie.com. A warning: The pieces might seem a little expensive at first (the $88 jersey romper costs more than a human version would at H&M) but remember that a portion of each sale goes to The American Humane Association, a non-profit dedicated to the welfare of animals and children. Plus, the price will be worth it when The Satorialist stops you on the street—to photograph your dog.
