Make Room For Fashion: Statement Jewelry

Sometimes it’s hard to wear statement jewelry in the summer without looking too dressed up. I especially find this to be the case during the day, when I want to look put together but still casual and relaxed. So when a friend introduced me to New York-based designers Holst + Lee, I was instantly intrigued. The look is a combo of surfer-girl chic and bohemian hipster: handmade bracelets and necklaces wrapped with colorful Indian cotton thread, interspersed with brass beads or crystals. And as I’ve mentioned before, I’m always on the lookout for bold, beautiful accessories that are pretty kid friendly, which means the easy-to-wear magnetic closures are also a plus.

Wanting to try before I buy, I went to check them out at the Surf Bazaar, a well-edited boutique in Montauk’s Surf Lodge Hotel where I heard one of the designers’ used to work. Yes, they are super cute in real life, too.

This simple style with pops of seasonal color make it a perfect choice to dress up a tank dress and leather sandals.

I love the color combos in this piece, classy and subtle yet also stands out from the crowd. Would go great with jeans and a simple tee.

To really pack a punch, this multi-strand necklace is sure to get conversations started

These bracelets would also look fantastic stacked, or combined with gold bangles.
