Mustard Colored Stuff Is Having a Moment

I don't have any tattoos, but I do have many lasting souvenirs of fashion freakouts past—some of which run quite high on the regretability scale, like rompers. (In college, I loved them. I thought they made me look like a casual, flocked hair '70s film star, but really I looked more like a glitter-dusted Pretty Little Liar.)

Anyway, in 2006, Michelle Williams' Oscar gown sparked one of those manias, a wildfire of mustard colored everything sweeping my closet. Deep yellow cocktail dresses, tops and pencil skirts are still in there from then, but my style's changed more than a bit in the past six years.

Now I think it's time I upgrade my mustard pieces from McDonald's packets to glass-bottled Dijon, especially now that everyone from Phillip Lim to Oscar de la Renta is having a moment with the color, too.

I'll be buying one of these pieces below—and, of course, accessorize it with a bold lip, like NARS's electric fuschia Funny Face or Chanel's scarlet Gabrielle. That's the best part, I think: when wearing a color like that, you don't need much beyond a jolt of lipstick to look pulled together (and, at the same time, more polished and adult-y than you would wearing neon.) So I say bring on the mustard. Again.
