Remembering Anna Piaggi: A Look Back at the Editor's Eccentric Style
Early this morning, fashion icon and Vogue Italia editor Anna Piaggi passed away at the age of 81 in her Milan home. Italian publication La Repubblica broke the news first, prompting an outpouring of loving tweets from some of Piaggi's friends and fashion colleagues. "RIP Anna Piaggi... :((((( ciao grande Anna!!!" wrote Stefano Gabbana, while Piaggi's pal Dita Von Teese tweeted, "So sad to hear that Anna Piaggi, one of my last icons of beauty & fashion has passed. She was the height of glamorous eccentricity. X"
The writer, who got her start at Italian mag Ariadne before going on to contribute to Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair and other publications, was well-known throughout the style community for her wacky, offbeat outfits and head-turning makeup looks. A fan of layering contrasting and clashing textures and prints long before it was considered chic, she was never without one of her signature sculptural hats or colorful canes. We're seriously digging that floral veil. Worn with the baton and top hat, it's very "magician gets married." In the best sense, of course.
