Christian Siriano Goes to the Ballet for Spring 2013

Sprightly former Project Runway contestant-turned-legit-designer Christian Siriano showed his Spring 2013 collection on Saturday to an audience of discreetly sweating editors and industry types fanning themselves with liner notes in a near-synchronized formation.

But as the runway cleared and the lights went down, all was forgiven as the designer sent another exuberantly feminine collection inspired by "the whimsical movement of ballet" (according to the fans, er, liner notes). The color palette was full of delightful buttercream pastels—tutu pink, powder blue and seafoam green—and elegant ivory. The daytime looks featured flouncy skirts, girly peplums and metallic brocades—loved minty green shorts suit and icing blue cropped pants and sleeveless top ensemble. The show closed out with Degas-reminiscent evening confections complete with fantastical layers of tulle and dreamy fluttering feathers and pearl encrusted floor length gowns.

I have to admit, I kept getting distracted by the shoes. The d'orsay pumps with dramatic ballerina ribbon bow detail, the metallic pink oxfords and the brilliant rhinestone encrusted Sun King-esque "estate shoes" with the gold plating-encrusted lucite heels will be tempting people into Payless this February. I'm serious.

But a check of the celeb front row turned up other favorites.

"There was one look that was so breathtaking and you actually heard everyone gasp," Britt singer Natasha Bedingfield gushed. "It was the white and cream outfit with the pearls all down the arms and it had a v-neck in the front and down the back. It was just stunning."
