Inspired by Jen Kao: Glow in the Dark Fashion

Last season Jen Kao—the clothing designer favored by those clutching tribal print Proenza Schouler PS1s in their nail art-ed fingertips—showed her fall collection of downtown it-girl looks in a pretty dark room.

But this season she took it a step further, entirely blacking out the lights for the first few minutes of her Spring 2013 show. It was dark enough that I couldn't find my iPhone in my own lap, but once the first few looks came out I didn't care: with their white patches glowing green, Kao's printed t-shirts and geometric shift dresses were pretty mesmerizing. (The look at left particularly so, making me sorry there's no App to make flash photography glow in the dark friendly.)

When they're available next spring, those flashy-yet-subversive looks will be an easy way for Kao's customers to standout in their preferred ambience—hazy rooms lit more by specialty cocktails and skilled DJs than, say, actual lights. But if you're into the look and can't wait until then, there are several glow in the dark fashions currently available that don't come from Claire's. Click through below to shop our favorites.
