Kiernan Shipka and a Bunch of Impeccably-Dressed Kids Sit Front Row at the Ralph Lauren Girls Show

It was like Fashion Week for the Upper East Side kiddie set yesterday as Ralph Lauren presented his Fall/Winter 2012 girls' line in a posh, dimly-lit, dark-wooded parlor room setting. Refreshingly, the front row was packed not with stern-faced editors, but the most awww-inducing and well-dressed children you've ever seen. Celeb stylist June Ambrose even deferred the better view to her daughter and fashion show vet Summer Chamblain by sitting in the second row—and David Lauren was standing.

The flashbulbs went into overdrive when Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper) took her seat dressed in what was to be the final look on the runway—a red wool military jacket with gold rope detail and a peplum. Very elegant and age-appropriate. We predict that jacket to be this season's preppy version of the Gap x Stella McCartney one. And judging from all the irresistably adorable and preppy looks (Ralph even mixed prints!), a lot of parents might be dipping into college funds for their daughters' wardrobes this season. Plus, a fair number of petite grown women are definitely going to be shopping in the girls' department.

We caught up with the Ambrose-Chamblain mother-daughter-duo after the show and just had to ask little Summer how she put together her very Jenna Lyons-esque prep-school button-down tucked into an electric purple tutu ensemble.

"My mom picked it out," she proudly admitted. Perks of having a stylist mother, huh?

So what are the top three back-to-school picks, according to Mom?

"Well for her, I love that army parka—wasn't that army parka good?," Ambrose asked us. "Leopard shoes, 'cuz when you wear a uniform you want to add little exciting accessories. What else, Summer?...Hats, a trapper hat."

So now we're officially jealous of little Summer's closet.

"I want to shop now, this is not fair—they didn't play fair on this one," she laughed. "It was adorable."
