Best Lip Colors for Fall

Lipstick is my favorite accessory! This season, try a dark red lip if you want to look sexy, glamorous, badass or all of the above. During the Fall 2012 shows, there were shades of deep burgundy and dark berry on the runways of Gucci, YSL, and Nina Ricci. And at Christian Siriano and Bottega Veneta, lips were even darker, edging into purple.

A little nervous to wear something other than a swipe of pink gloss? Think about it this way: Bold lips don't seem so scary when you consider those crazy flower pants you've been walking around in since the beginning of the summer....

Let's start out with the most intense color of the season—plum. Wearing it will make you (almost) as cool as rapper Azealia Banks, who created this shade with MAC.

For daytime, just wear the gloss. For night, layer on the lipstick.

The best part about this merlot-y shade is that you'll never have to worry about red wine/sangria-stained lips again. It blends right in!

This is my new favorite. There are little flecks of glitter mixed in with the dark red. I'm a sucker for glitter.

For those of us with very fair skin, darker colors may sometimes look a little too Hot Topic. This red is a bit lighter, but is still more bordeaux than fire-engine.

A classic, bright red is always in season. This is my go-to lip color. No matter what the day brings, it never fades.

Just like nail polish, neutrals are just as "in" for fall as the bolder hues. A nude lip will allow you try some of fall's other fun beauty looks. Metallic eye shadow, anyone?
