Shop the Trend: Sheer Hems

I'm not good at math, but I do know that if I had a dollar for every tweed or leather piece I've seen girls wear to the spring fashion shows so far, I'd have enough money to buy myself one of each of those things. (And not just the Topshop iterations but, like, a Chanel tweed jacket and a leather pencil skirt from The Row.)

Now, thanks to a burgeoning trend from the spring runways, we'll surely being seeing more of those fabrics next year too—just reimagined a bit. Cushnie et Ochs, Charlotte Ronson and Helmut Lang (pictured above, respectively) juxtaposed skirts and dresses cut from those thick textures with sheer tulle underlays, both softening the look and drastically shortening the skirt length. Equal parts vampy and ethereal, those sheer hems breathe new life into fall's leather and tweed pencil skirts, shifts and minis.

Again, I'm not good with math, but the odds seem pretty good that this repurposing of fall's tough textures will be a major hit next spring. Of course, if you can't wait until then, you can always shop the currently available pieces below.
