Plus Size Options: Lucky's November Issue
November’s issue of Lucky highlighted a number of transitional pieces. I love fall’s traditional warm color palette of browns, maroons and jewel tones, but as a southern Californian who started out on the beaches of Florida, it’s tough for me to completely shake off the bright colors of summer. That’s why I was so drawn to this month’s feature, Pink! Green! Red! Yellow! Those colors just make me smile, and I love the idea of continuing to wear them through the seasons.
My adapted outfit is all about that yellow skirt by Kiyonna ($62), seen above. I LOVE that skirt. With a piece that bright, you almost have to go basic with the rest of your outfit, in order to make this work for the average office. If you’re in a creative field, go ahead and wear it as styled on Kiyonna’s website, but if not, here are some suggestions.
For a shirt, go with something clean and tailored. Talbots carries this wing-collar shirt in both plus and plus petites, so get the one that fits you best, in white ($89.50).
For a jacket, I’d recommend a basic black blazer, which you may already own. If not, here are a couple ideas. ASOS Curve’s Shrunken Boyfriend Blazer ($79.16) works well with this skirt for the office, or with your jeans over the weekend. Or you can try Carmakoma’s Besra boucle jacket ($197.48), which lends some texture to the outfit. The boucle keeps it ladylike, while the zippers give it some edge.
Finally, add some awesome shoes by Stuart Weitzman ($395), and some color with your bag. You could go with the garnet Kate Spade Miles shoulder bag for $428, or with the bright pink Michael Kors tote at $278. Either one is going to top this outfit off perfectly.
As the weather turns dreary, cheerful colors help keep your spirits up and keep you focused at work. Don’t give them up just because the seasons change! With just a little modification you can wear your brights as long as you like.
