Men's Items That Look Great on Women

As the VP of men's sportswear and shoes for Bergdorf Goodman, it's part of Mimi Fukuyoshi's job to understand how menswear fits. But it's not her responsibility to know how menswear fits women. She's inadvertently taken that challenge on, though, by regularly shopping the men's department for herself.

It's there that Mimi buys pants, jackets and shirts with fits and prices she couldn't find over in the women's section. From perfectly slouchy button-ups to a sweater that would cost twice as much in the women's department, Mimi's built up a stable of standby items to steal from the boys. Each of them blends menswear swagger with female-flattering cuts, so naturally, we love them all. Click through below to shop her favorites.

I like my jeans to fit like my pants—slightly oversized and boxy.  I'm not a jeggings girl and I don't want to wear jeans that are strangling my ankles or are outrageously low-rise.  These are my jeans, always and forever. The fit is perfect and although it takes a while, they break in beautifully.

Although they don't make womenswear, this line is cut to fit Japanese men (i.e., way small), so I buy a bunch of it. This jacket's great: I like the military feel coupled with the unexpected salmon color. And the wash and faded treatment keep it from being too precious.

I already have the designer's black varsity jacket, but this would be the perfect update for those transitional fall days. I'd wear it over a dress or with a sweater and midi skirt.

I actually wear a lot of dresses and only own about three or four pairs of pants. Two of those pairs are Patrik Ervell men's; he cuts his trousers quite small—most men I know have to go up one size—so the size 28 fits me perfectly.  These in particular are great; I like a pleated pant, especially on women. And these have a nice, multi-colored, tweedy effect that doesn't really translate in the photos.

This is technically boy's, not men's, but I find that the size 14 in boy's or the XS in men's J. Crew sweaters look great on women.  And this sweater would be so much more expensive in women's!  The colors are great—it could be worn with jeans on the weekends or over a collared shirt and skirt to work.

I think a looser fitting button-down on a woman is a lot sexier than an overly darted and tight-fitting one, so I wear a lot of men's or boy's shirts, mostly from Hamilton, Gitman or Brooks Brothers. I picked this shirt because it is a collaboration with a good friend of mine, but I also like its versatility. It's all business if you have a jacket on, but then it turns into a party when you take the jacket off and reveal the camo sleeves!
