Naomi Watts Talks Dream Target Collaborations and Dressing Like Princess Diana at the Store's 50th Anniversary Fête
Last night, we celebrated Target's 50th anniversary with a red-and-white vaudeville performance, pomegranate cocktails and a DJ set courtesy of Harley Viera Newton. Alicia Keys even popped by to serenade the store with an a cappella rendition of "Happy Birthday." But much of the action happened on the red carpet, where Naomi Watts and Revenge's Christa Allen posed for photos alongside Bullseye, Target's famous white spokesdog.
Naomi recently wrapped up work on Diana, the much-anticipated Princess Di biopic for which she got to wear some pretty spectacular '90s-era clothing. So which was her favorite outfit from the shoot? "The one-shouldered Versace gown is such a classic," she told us. "And then there were a couple dresses that were actually worn by her, which was so special." And although she turned up in a polka-dotted top and bangle watch from the retailer, the actress and mother of two says she typically forgoes Target's wearable offerings in favor of the home goods section. "I'm a big fan of Tupperware," she laughed. "I know that sounds crazy and outdated, but I love it." We love a lady with mad organizational skills.
When Revenge star Christa Allen walked the carpet, we were eager to chat all things Season Two-related. "This season, she's got a little more fight in her," Christa said of her troubled character Charlotte Grayson. "She certainly won't be resorting to pill-popping!" She confessed that she loves slipping into the show's costumes, too—and prefers them enormously to the scrunchies and leggins she wore as a preteen Jenna Rink in 13 Going On 30 (another major Lucky obsession). "Everything in the '80s hurt, from the pulled-up, kinky-curled hair to the tight waist belts!" she explained. "I'll take my pretty, girly Hamptons frocks any day." Speaking of style, which designer would Christa most like to see collaborate with Target? "Tom Ford!" she exclaimed. "He's a fashion god. I have an altar to him in my house. He's a genius, he's beautiful...I mean, the list goes on."
As for the major labels Naomi Watts would most like to see team up with the big bullseye? "Has Stella McCartney done it yet?" she asked me. "Definitely her...and Helmut Lang. Oh, and Isabel Marant!" We'd certainly line up to snag an affordable take on Isabel's famous wedge sneakers. Target execs, are you listening?
