Our Hurricane Sandy Shopping Sprees

Yesterday, like the rest of the East Coast, we prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy. We have candles, food, magazines, books and all of our devices are fully charged and ready to go. According to meteorologists, the worst of the storm is still a few hours away, so that leaves us with nothing to do but wait—and shop. Nothing whips us into a retail frenzy quite like a natural disaster. Read below to see where we're currently clicking.

"Madewell is offering an extra 25 percent off items, which means everything I resisted ordering LAST month is pretty much less than half the orignal price."

"Got a HUGE gift card at my bridal shower a few weeks ago and this stormy weather puts me in the mood for comforting home cooked food."

"This is unusual, but today I want home stuff more than clothes. I'm wearing pajamas and quite happy with it, but I can't stop staring at all the areas of my apartment that are either missing something or just sorta wrong. Thankfully Joss & Main's Zoe Saldana-curated sale can help with the big stuff—it's so good..."

...and for the little stuff, I'm turning to C.Wonder and Zara Home. I've had long wish lists from both those places for quite a while, but I've never taken the time to measure for pieces I want or contemplate if they actually match up with what I already own. Today seems like an ideal day for that."

"In New York City, rain boots are an all-year must-have. But when a hurricane hits, they become absolutely indispensable, particularly post-storm when there are still tons of puddles to navigate. Loeffler Randall makes some of the best lower-cut wellies on the market—I'm crazy about the lace-up and lynx-spotted versions in particular."

"Sure, a khaki trench is an absolute classic and an important investment for stormy weather—but how incredibly cool are Terra New York's 100 percent waterproof anoraks, trenches and capelets? They're made from a slick urethane material that's semi-sheer, frosted and comes in several colors—utilitarian and so stylish."

"In between catching up on Season 1 of Homeland on iTunes, I've been looking at beauty products like the Nars lip pencil Lauren recommended last week on Amazon and browsing housewares sites since I'm understandably in a forced nesting mode. West Elm is having a sale now and I'm into this subtle but striking geometric rug designed by Alyson Fox."

"The Farmer's Almanac has predicted a pretty rough winter, which I've never minded. After last year's less-than-impressive ski season, I'm looking forward to some huge snowfall. With new snow comes new jackets and I've got my sight set on this one from Burton."

"Anyone who loves preppy-cool brands like Steven Alan, Penny Stock, Madewell will be into this Portland-based label."
