Star Style: 4 Chic TV Actresses Share Their Fashion Musts

Sure, there are plots to keep up with, amazing characters and award-worthy acting, but sometimes all TV makes us think about is shopping. We're often so distracted by say, Blair Waldorf's skirts or Emily Thorne's party dresses, that it's hard to remain focused and not immediately start trolling ShopBop looking for similar pieces.

So in our December issue, we chose to celebrate four of our favorite stylish TV actresses—Hannah Simone who plays Cece on Fox’s New Girl; Jennifer Morrison known as Emma Swan on ABC’s Once Upon a Time; Morena Baccarin who is Jessica Brody on Showtime’s Homeland and Troian Bellisario who plays Spencer on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liarsby asking them to model their on-screen AND off-screen style. (Pick up the issue for the whole story!) From Spencer’s preppy sweater vests to Cece’s form-fitting dresses, their characters’ looks certainly define their on-screen personalities. But, as we found out, these stars are hardly slackers when it it comes to off-duty dressing. Read on....

Hannah Simone's Personal Pick

"Cece's style is very different from my style. I like to just throw on one thing and leave, like a sundress. It should be really easy, so being Cece has been a big education for me in the world of separates."

Hannah Simone's Personal Pick

"I recently wore a Naeem Khan dress to do something very different from what I usually wear. That was the type of dress that when you put it on, you feel an instant transformation. I loved it."

Hannah Simone's Pick for Cece

"Cece is a woman who is very proud of her body, and I think that’s a good message right now for girls because all of us kind of struggle. It's nice to see a confident woman who dresses for her shape but doesn’t hide anything, and does so in a way that is sophisticated but empowered."

Hannah Simone's Pick for Cece

"I like that Cece has that little bit of rock and roll. I know at least every other week I’m going to be wearing leather in some form."

Jennifer Morrison's Personal Pick

"I'm trying to incorporate color into my life. Until recently, everything in my closet was black, white, gray, navy or olive."

Jennifer Morrison's Personal Pick

"I have a closet full of blazers and more striped shirts than any human could possibly wear. Somehow I think that I don’t have striped shirts, and then I look at my closet and go, 'Oh, I have ten.' But then you always end up with your favorite striped shirt of the moment, and you don’t end up wearing any of the other ones."

Jennifer Morrison's Personal Pick

"I'm on an Isabel Marant kick. She does an amazing job of making things that are everyday-wearable but also special and a little bit different. I definitely like that she has a '70s western vibe. There’s something that’s very fun and vintage in what she’s doing."

Jennifer Morrison's Pick for Emma

“We wanted Emma to be a pop of color in Storybrooke. When she comes into Storybrooke they’re depressed and down. There’s no hope, so we visually wanted her to be a pop of color in a very gray world. That season, Balmain had this absolutely sick red leather jacket and it was in all their ads. And I was like ‘It might be crazy but what about a red leather jacket?’ Clearly I can’t afford a Balmain jacket, but a variation of that one was what we were thinking, and when we began doing the camera tests, that pop of color in that world really worked.”

Jennifer Morrison's Pick for Emma

"Lucky definitely featured the runway version of Emma! It was just a variation of her same look, and it’s amazing to see how you can still identify the look but how drastically different it really can be. The jeans were these Current/Elliot jeans with a tuxedo stripe down the leg which I though were very cool. I’ve actually been looking for them now!"

Jennifer Morrison's Pick for Emma

"Emma is someone who has great attachment to specific things. She wears the same jewelry everyday. And you’re actually about to find out in an episode we’re about to shoot where her swan pendant came from."

Morena Baccarin's Personal Pick

"I like to just throw on jeans and a shirt that's a little more exciting than a T-shirt, but not fancy at all. Just something you can throw together and can interchange with things in your wardrobe."

Morena Baccarin's Personal Pick

On her stylist, Roberta Wagner pushing her to try jumpsuits: "I thought 'ehhhhh I have a can on me.' I have an ass, and you can’t wear any old jumpsuit or you look like your grandma. But I've tried on a few now like a BCBG tuxedo jumpsuit and it’s really sexy and fun. It's something I would never had picked up for myself in a million years."

Morena Baccarin's Personal Pick

"I like indie designers like Gary Graham and Alexander Wang, who is a lot less indie now, and Raquel Allegra. Things that look somewhat ordinary but with an edge to them."
file

Morena Baccarin's Pick for Jessica

"In the second season, Jessica is in the political limelight more. So she got some styling tips from the Vice President’s wife and the DC political women. She's got a little bit of a Jackie Kennedy thing going on now with jackets and power suits. Classic fits, she’s still a simple girl at heart. And she likes functional clothes, but she ups the game a little bit."

Morena Baccarin's Pick for Jessica

"Jessica wears your typical power suit type of dress, without being too fancy, or like your nice, simple Elie Tahari dress and a little jacket over it. We don’t want her to look corporate so we walk a fine line there. We want to give her a little bit of style, a hint of recall to the '60s, to give her some flair without being outlandish."

Troian Bellisario's Personal Pick

"Spencer's knee socks are kind of from my style. I wear them all the time. And I actually I adore boots—I have so few shoes that are not boots. I own one pair of high heels and everything else is motorcycle boots, equestrian boots, cowboy boots. So I actually think that’s where I get to influence Spencer a little bit."

Troian Bellisario's Personal Pick

"My icon is Patti Smith, so the more rips, the more punk, the more comfortable I feel. I wear a lot of punk T-shirts and denim jeans that completely fall off of me because they belonged to my mom."

Troian Bellisario's Personal Pick

"Whenever I have to go to a red carpet, I love wearing gowns. I think it's my one time to get dressed up. I'm not really that girl who goes out to dinner and will wear a $500 dollar jacket with jeans. I want to go uber casual or I want to go really high-end. That’s why all my red carpet looks are very long, very beautiful, very classic. Ralph Lauren is my ultimate dream, or Chanel."
file

Troian Bellisario's Pick for Spencer

"She's very classic, sort of perfect young Ralph Lauren and old money."

Troian Bellisario's Pick for Spencer

On her Lucky shoot in Spencer attire: "It was very classic Spencer. A beautiful blazer, kind of dressed down with a nice denim shirt and these tweed shorts that looked like Chanel, and these awesome loafers and tights. This Audrey Hepburn look is very much in the vein of Spencer."

Troian Bellisario's Pick for Spencer

"There are pieces that are a little bit edgy, but they're not really what you’d expect. Spencer wears a very distinct silhouette and often a very pulled together one."
