Lisa Frank Is Making a Fashion Comeback—Here's Why

Just yesterday, we examined the striking similarities between Rihanna's SNL performance from last weekend and Azealia Banks' new "Atlantis" video. Both incorporated seapunk graphics—trippy web imagery involving spinning dolphins, palm trees, crystals and other such objects, all cast in crazy Technicolor hues. We immediately sensed an emerging trend—and we were right. The very next day, Proenza Schouler released an animated mini-movie called "Desert Tide," which starred several avatars dressed in looks from the label. And guess what? There were purple dolphins involved.

Three makes a trend, or so they say—but when we look at these examples of psychedelic digital art, we can't help but think of Lisa Frank. Yes, she of the rainbow-tailed unicorns, dapperly-dressed teddy bears and kissing dolphins of yesteryear. The '90s-era artist has already made somewhat of a pop cultural comeback lately, what with her vintage stationery being sold at Urban Outfitters and a nearly one-year-old apparel collection—but now, we're betting her newfound popularity has crossed over from mere novelty to actual influence. What do you think? Are you ready of a stylish onslaught of shooting stars, pink puppies and ballet-dancing bunnies on the Fall 2013 runways?

While we wait to see how designers might interpret this burgeoning trend, click through to shop some Lisa Frank-inspired fashion finds. And P.S.: if it's the real deal you're after, plenty of genuine Lisa Frank clothing is still available at Lisafrankstore.com. So now you know.
