15 International Fashion Exhibitions to Visit on Your Winter Vacation

Courtesy of Museo Salvatore Ferragamo

Sure diamonds, leather jackets and iPads would be wonderful holiday presents, but what’s number one on our wish list is something you can’t fit in a box—unless it contains plane tickets!

All we want is to travel. (Diamonds are a close second.) If you’re in the mood to explore, or just in need of a vacation, there are plenty of amazing exhibits happening around the world that fashion obsessives like us will love. From New York to the Netherlands, we rounded up the 15 worth visiting. And if traveling isn’t in your near future, you can still read on to peek inside each one.

2. Fashion & Technology at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York, New York)

Open through May 8, 2013

This exhibit illustrates the fast-paced and continually evolving relationship between fashion and technology. Spanning the last 250 years, we learn how technology is at fashion’s core, and how it influences production, function, materials and aesthetics. From the invention of the sewing machine, to the creation of skyscrapers, to the discovery of space travel, we see how specific designers were inspired by the changing world around them. Now with 3-D printing and social media to intensify fashion branding opportunities, this exhibit enables visitors to think outside the box of tangible fashion and into the realm of conceptual factors.
