Michelle Obama Wears Jason Wu—Again!—to the Inaugural Ball

It's been a weekend of blues for Michelle Obama—sartorially speaking, that is—as her husband Barack kicked off his second term in office. But when it came time to choose a gown for tonight's inaugural balls, without a doubt the weekend's most-anticipated event from a style standpoint, the First Lady turned to one of her favorite designers: Jason Wu.
Back in 2009, MObama essentially put the then-little-known Wu on the fashion map by wearing his white one-shouldered gown on inauguration night. Since then, the designer's gone on to become one of Fashion Week's hottest tickets, collaborate with Target and dress numerous Hollywood stars. It seems fitting, then, that the First Lady would bring things full circle by choosing a Jason Wu design once again for tonight's fête—particularly one that communicates such a strong image of courage and American pride.
The dress, a ruby red chiffon-and-velvet creation with a halter neckline, gets a huge thumbs-up from us—as did Mrs. O's decision to keep her accessories minimal, adding only a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, a few stacked bangles and a Kimberly McDonald ring.
