Shop DKNY's '90s Revival Collection for Opening Ceremony
Whether they skew towards Kurt Cobain or Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, it seems like everyone's remixing 90's elements into their wardrobes lately. From grungy high-top sneakers and distressed denim to minimalist camisole dresses and cardigans, '90s-inspired stuff is everywhere.
For their latest capsule collection, DKNY proves they're onto the craze—but determined to approach the trend differently. Instead of designing new pieces that simply riff off of the decade's signature styles, they're going back to their historical archives for a more literal take. Teaming up with Opening Ceremony, the label's rereleasing fourteen of their greatest hit pieces from the years 1991 to 1994, including graphic print track pants, oversize t-shirts and jumpsuits with giant numbers on them. (Remember that phase, when random numbers were cool to screenprint on clothing? Yah.)
Starting at $145, the pieces aren't cheap, but they certainly have cool factor in spades. They're not subtle—and might be a bit of a challenge to style—but in their defense, I'd argue for the authenticity. In a sea of '90s-skewing outfits, they're the real deal, and it stands out. It's a bit like hearing the original track when you're used to the remix, you know? It just sounds fresher. Even though it's like, way, way older.
