Guess Who's (Kinda) Replacing Nicola Formichetti at Thierry Mugler?

Back at the beginning of this month, revived fashion label Mugler announced it was parting ways with its Lady Gaga-approved creative director, Nicola Formichetti. We were pretty bummed, considering how dramatically the celebrity stylist and artistic mastermind had upped the brand's star power over the course of his two-year tenure. But Formichetti quickly snagged himself a position as Diesel's first-ever artistic director, affirming our belief that he'd quickly land on his feet. Then, this morning, Mugler announced its newest hire—and it's none other than Thierry Mugler himself. Yes, Mugler the man is now back at Mugler the brand.

Mugler, who founded his namesake label in 1974, added a fragrance division in the '90s and shuttered his couture company in 2003 to focus on perfume full-time, has been named the brand's new creative adviser, where he'll consult on matters both fashion- and fragrance-related. According to WWD, the unification of Mugler's different divisions is part of the company's plan to "[set] the stage for a fully integrated Mugler brand vision as the French house nears its 40th anniversary in fashion." Meanwhile, Thierry Mugler's head designers for both womenswear and menswear have left the brand, which begs the question: will Mugler serve as their replacement for the time being? Or does he have another superstar hire in the works?
