Check Out Dusen Dusen’s Shocking New Collab!

Dusen Dusen has long been one of my favorite indie brands. The line’s Brooklyn-based designer, Ellen Van Dusen, is known for her vivid original prints—her fall '13 collection, for example, was inspired by the bold shapes found in Calder mobiles and Matisse cutouts, as well as Esprit and Bennetton ads from the ’90s (cool, right?). But when I stumbled upon Dusen Dusen’s latest collaboration with Seattle boutique and online retailer Totokaelo, I was completely shocked: not a print in sight! Van Dusen took the shapes from her spring ’13 collection and reworked them into pared down (and printless!) silk pieces in a moody color palette of dark purple maroons and navy. And it totally works: The super-minimal collection really accentuates the designer’s immaculate construction and clean silhouettes, bringing a sleek, sophisticated twist to her streetwear vibe. I love her even more now!
