Our Editors Ponder the Rising Popularity of "Dad Jeans"

"While I totally appreciate the all-American feel of a pair of faded jeans, I'll always be Team Dark Denim. A deep indigo (or even black) rinse is not only slimming, but infinitely more polished than a bleached-out one. On the rare occasion that I don some denim, I always ask myself 'What Would Sofia Coppola Wear?'—and the answer's usually a pair of ultra-dark skinnies with a not-very-low rise. They just feel so French!" - Elana Fishman, Senior Digital Editor

Earlier this week, the New York Times made the claim that "dad jeans" are having a resurgence. Whoa, whoa, hold up—they're not the "dad jeans" that most of us know and loathe. Basically, the piece reported on the growing popularity of faded denim, the kind with a slightly fuller leg. They're not true "dad jeans," thank goodness. After reading the article, we felt compelled to poll the team on where they stand when it comes to faded versus dark denim. The results, above.
