Jay Z Is Getting In On The Collaboration Game—With Barneys!
Jay Z is getting in on the fashion collaboration game in a huge way. Instead of teaming up with just one label, he's consulted with nearly every high end brand on Barneys' top notch roster—Alexander Wang! Lanvin! Rick Owens!—to created limited edition products for the company's upcoming holiday promotion, "A New York Holiday." Although the range isn't a literal intepretation of the Big Apple, its pieces are based on the city's overall style—indeed, it has a certain empire state of mind.
Much like the department store's past partnerships centered around December gifting, like the Gaga extravaganza in 2011 and last year's Disney-themed goodies, everything will be available both online and at select Barneys' flagship locations in a pop-up shop (called the "BNY SCC Gallery" after both parties' initials, respectively) from late November through the new year (November 20 through January 3 to be exact). What's different this time around, though, is that the items are a lot less gimmick-y, and also more expensive. Whereas before you could stockpile under-$20 trinkets like Mother Monster-shaped cookies or notebooks printed with Mickey Mouse ears to hand out at holiday parties, this line is solely comprised of big-ticket investments. With items including a minimalist black backpack by Balenciaga and exclusive Elder Statesman blanket made from black and ivory cashmere, you'll probably just buy one piece for someone very special.
