Kanye West On Louis Vuitton: 'The Prices Are Just Too Expensive'

For the first time in a number of years, we've found ourselves startled to kind of, sort of, actually understand Kanye West's latest news-making statement. The rapper told Los Angeles' Power 106 radio station late yesterday that he won't collaborate with Louis Vuitton again for—wait for it—monetary reasons. Despite a 2009 collaboration with the luxury brand (and the onetime self-appointed nickname "Louis Vuitton Don"), West made it clear he's not a fan of Vuitton's upcoming "hyper-luxury" goods.

"If I had the opportunity to design for Louis Vuitton now, I wouldn't. Because the prices [are] just too extreme," said West. "And I don't want to use my message to have kids saving up that much, you know, to be part of what the ideas are. You know, that's the problem to me with luxury."

Remember, this is coming from a man who isn't exactly shy about his preferences for pricey brands like Céline, Givenchy, and Margiela, but could Miss North West have prompted a change of heart? After all, his "Yeezus Tour" merchandise is only slightly more expensive than a run-of-the-mill concert tee, and he did recently debut a (comparatively) reasonably-priced collaboration with A.P.C.

But will this mean we can expect Yeezy to trash his luxury-loving ways when it comes to his own wardrobe? Probably not.
