Versace Does Not Approve Of Lifetime's Donatella Biopic, House of Versace
Based on the 2010 book House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder and Survival by Deborah Ball, Lifetime's latest made-for-TV movie House of Versace promises to include an "in-depth look at Gianni Versace’s start in the fashion business" and "the story of Donatella." But as for whether it will be factually accurate is a matter of debate—the famous Italian brand has had zero involvement with the project. "Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction," a spokesperson for the company told WWD.
Even so, if sheer entertainment is your end game, it still might be worth TiVo-ing HoV this weekend (it premieres on Saturday, October 5), for a little light watching while you online shop. There's sure to be some killer costumes, and the actress playing Donatella, Gina Gershon, looks eerily similar to the blonde designer in flick's promotional images. And hey, if we learned anything from the channel's cinematic masterpiece William and Kate in 2011, fiction is usually more fun than the truth anyways, right?
