Just when you think, "No, seriously, I can't find
everything on eBay," the auction site rises to the challenge and attempts to prove you wrong. Its latest innovation is called the
Fashion Vault. It's a new space for designer sale events--the kind you'd see on
Hautelook or Rue La La-- and it offers original prices slashed up to 70 percent.

When I was growing up, my mother was a champion at
getting dolled up for big events. She had her own dressing room--it wasn't anything fancy, just a mauve-painted space two stairs down from her bedroom with a closet, a vanity, a full length mirror and a sink. When it was time for her to get ready, I would sit on the top step and watch as she methodically applied makeup,
did elaborate things with her hair, chose jewelry, spritzed perfume and, finally, put on a fancy dress

1. Because ever since I saw adorable Ellen Page earlier this fall in

I suppose we'll need to file this post under "et al," but remember the girl wearing the shockingly good Contempo Casuals dress on
last Thursday's "Look of the Day"? Well, I have been obsessing over her outfit for about 87 hours. And, after all this time--though the parka and the dress and the sunglasses are great--I've decided the key to her whole ensemble has got to be those shoes.

There's something about earmuffs that immediately makes one feel feminine, snow-bunny-ish, a little offbeat and totally playful too. They're superior to hats in that they seem dressier and also won't muss your hair. I've owned many pairs. Given all of this, I was beyond, beyond thrilled when reader Kalligrrl7
wrote in asking me to track down the perfect set of "soft and furry earmuffs." Mission accomplished.
