It's All About...Polka Dots

We've been seeing spots lately, and, no, we don't need a trip to the doctor. The fall runways were full of polka dots, and we couldn't be more excited for a new print to take hold in our collective closets. Graphic patterns, tribal motifs and florals have ruled the runways for the past few seasons, and now it seems the torch has been passed. Whether the dots are subtle (like at Stella McCartney), or oversize (like at Marc Jacobs), they're totally cheeky and just a little--dare we say--optimistic? So perfect for summer.Read More

Every Girl Should Own: Cutoff Jean Shorts

Cutoff jean shorts are a summer-wardrobe staple. They perfectly showcase tanned stems and are durable enough to withstand melted ice cream, sweat and sunscreen (and many a spin cycle). But there is a thin line between jorts (that would be a combo of the words "jean" and "shorts," which are what tourists with pale legs and mandals wear when they are shopping for Statue of Liberty trinkets) and the super-cool, channeling Chloe Sevigny kind of cutoffs. The key here is to go with a pair that are vintagey looking and slightly beat-up. They're versatile enough to wear with everything from a gray T-shirt and flip-flops to a blazer and heels. It's up to you if you want to go with classic faded blue, or if you're more into cool gray or crisp white--the length is also up for grabs, but just make sure the hem is perfectly frayed--even if you just bought them yesterday.

It's All About...Peter Pan Collars

Silk blouses are a must-have item right now, and our favorites are topped with Peter Pan collars. Traditionally relegated to children's clothes, this small, rounded style was all over the spring runways. Louis Vuitton even paired them with S&M-inspired pieces. Weird juxtaposition? Not at all. This is one piece that that can transform a look in a sartorial second. Skirt too short? Add a top with a Peter Pan collar and you suddenly seem downright demure with a bit of Twiggy-era mod thrown in. Jeans too tight? Again, the Peter Pan will take you straight into the realm of posh equestrian chic. Style icon Alexa Chung (we know, we blog about her a lot) is the perfect ambassador of Peter Pan collar perfection--she pairs hers with short-shorts to give her outfit a sweet yet cheeky edge that we absolutely love.

It's All About...Layered Bracelets

Recently, at a photo shoot in L.A., we were busted mid-covetous-stare at the grungy yet chic model-off-duty look of the stylist. It started on her wrist--a jumble of gold bangles, woven friendship bracelets, a chunky vintage watch and a leather moment here and there.

Personal jewelry--anything that has meaning (or looks like it could have meaning)--stacked on your wrists, around your neck, and on your hands is the new statement piece. This is the perfect time to pull out that charm bracelet your parents gave you for your sweet 16 and pair it with your old friendship bracelets from camp, along with any and every trinket languishing in the ol' jewelry box. For inspiration, take a page from layering queen Mary-Kate Olsen, who has it down to a science.

It's All About...Wide-Leg Pants

Wide-leg pants have been a staple in our collective closets since we spotted Drew Barrymore on the red carpet rocking a pair of floor-skimming trousers from the then Stella McCartney-helmed Chloe. This season, the style is going for extra credit, now ballooning into an ultra-cool sort of palazzo pant.

We saw them on the runways at Theyskens' Theory and admired them from afar, but weren't entirely convinced we could pull them off. But, oh, how things have changed. Since then, we've seen many fashionable types wearing them (including Vogue 's Meredith Melling Burke) rocking them quite confidently and not only do they look comfortable, the proportions make anyone's waist appear absolutely tiny. Every Girl Should Own: Flat Leather Sandals

We love classics here at Lucky. Buy them once, wear them forever. So when temperatures start to rise we head to our closets and dust off our beloved flat leather sandals. Perfect for walking around the city on warm summer days or wearing with a flirty dress to that Memorial Day barbecue--they are just so versatile. Our favorites are K. Jacques leather sandals, which are handmade in St.Tropez. We had read about them everywhere and had seen them on our favorite style setters, but when we saw the price at the store, we balked. But here we are, three summers later, and we are still wearing them. Here are some of our other faves:Read More

It's All About ... Flatforms

When we first saw flatforms come down the spring runways we were intrigued. With a playful nod to the 1970s, they are part platform, part flat sandal. We've seen versions in rope, cork, and wood--they are the wedge's latest incarnation. Best of all, they give us those extra inches we love without the requisite pain. Styling Tips:--Wear with a this season's favorite--the long-skirt-- to keep your hem from dusting the sidewalk. --Pair with your favorite flares, a silk blouse, and a floppy hat for a retro-vibe.--A floral blouse, high-waisted shorts and a flatform is the ultimate summer look...with a twist. How are you wearing flatforms? Every Girl Should Own: A Denim Jacket

Remember when pairing your denim jacket with a hypercolor t-shirt, jean shorts and Reebok high-tops was the ultimate of cool? We sure do. Well, it's time to dust that baby off, because it's back. Last summer we lived in our shrunken cargo jacket, this summer the jean jacket is taking it's spot in the sun. Lou Doillon, French actress and arbiter of all things chic, shows us how it's done. Black body-con dress, perfect peep-toe heel and her denim jacket, which doesn't scream, but subtly whispers, yep, I'm cool. Styling Tips:--Throw it over a dress to take the fancy down just a notch. --Wear it with a wide-leg pant to bring a little Lower East Side to a traditionally Upper East Side look. --Channel the spring runways (holla Stella McCartney and Derek Lam!) and pair it with your favorite jeans for a full-on denim on denim look. It's All About...Tribal-Print Skirts

We had a veritable freak-out when we saw the insanely gorgeous tribal prints at Thakoon's fall show. How thrilled were we then to see tribal prints popping up on the sartorially savvy this spring, like DJ/It Girl Harley Viera-Newton in this Herve Leger number. With the temperatures heating up, it's all about a short skirt to show off those gams, and a tribal print is a perfectly modern take on a classic look. For those of you wary of loud prints, never fear, pair it with understated items to keep your look from being too cray-cray.
