Silver Chucks: I Want These Badly

Conversehightop

I know by now you guys are well aware of how much I love Converse. Converselowtop But check out this new John Varvatos-designed pair that's done in a sort of distressed gunmetal color. Aren't they amazing? The interiors are lined with pinstripes, like I'd imagine you'd find in a bespoke suit jacket. They come as high-tops and as low-tops, though I might prefer the tall ones, if only because I'm really into the black laces, as much as the ease of a slip-on sneaker is appealing. There's a major downside though: These are technically a guy's shoe, and they start at size 6 men's, which translates to a women's 8. And I'm a 7. Ugh! For the rest of you size 8 plus-ers, I will be living vicariously through you.

Have you seen the newest Jack Purcell styles? I really like the basket weave style I saw on their Japanese site. There's also a patent perforated one out that's looks nice, don't know how good the quality is though. And I have size 5 feet, so finding women's shoes that fit me is a challenge! I always wished I had big feet, just so I could wear guys sneakers - they're so much nicer!

I had been searching for silver Chuck's forever and I finally found the 'perfect' pair of Chuck's on the Barney's website a few years back. They were called Pewter and were slightly distressed and too shiny -, unfortunately they were already sold out of the women's 5.5 and they never restocked. I found another pair of silver one's but they are a bit more tin foil silver. After looking at the Varvatos pair (which I love as well), they look as if they have been rubbed with black shoe polish so I may try that on mine and see what happens... and I may try the black laces as well. Thanks for posting!

Oh and I agree with 'urple' about men's sneakers being so much nicer. I'm a 5-5.5 too and often have to buy boys running/gym shoes (like all my Chuck's) to avoid garish color combinations.

urple: I've never seen the basket weave Jack Purcell's - I'm definitely going to look those up! Thanks for the tip.

blynn: Love the idea of DIY distressing. I have a friend who swears the best way to distress her new Chucks is to run over them with her car a couple times. Kind of nuts but I've always wanted to try that. In addition to a bit of shoe polish (make sure that doesn't smear on your clothes!) I wonder if sandpaper here and there would help get a more antiquated look. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'l try the sand paper and I'll definitely keep you posted.
By the way, in my earlier post I meant to say "NOT too shiny" in the sentence: "They were called Pewter and were slightly distressed and too shiny." Sorry about that...

This is so weird because just last week a guy on my street was sitting on his stoop spray painting a pair of Chucks silver. I know that might be annoyingly DIY, but they looked pretty awesome.

It's amazing what a little DIY detail will do to a shoe. I bought some basic black sneakers for restaurant work from Payless and added white laces instead of the black that came with them, and they made a world of difference. So much so that two other girls at work--both of whom had the SAME PAIR OF SHOES--stopped me and said, "I love your shoes, where did you get them??"

Silver spray paint sounds awesome. I must try that.

Liked the shoes too, and went on the website www.converse.com. I'm a size 6.5-7 also, and they had my size, I just had to click on woman's sizes to find it. So those shoes are still totally within reach.

Have you heard anything about Stateside/Online availability of the CDG Play Converse collaboration? My understanding so far is that they're not available until July and they'll be around $145. Still. They are ultra cute and I want a pair of the black high tops.

Thanks!

STYLE DILEMMA! ADVICE?!

Okay, so, I am planning on going to Warped Tour this summer (and hopefully many more summer concerts- they're so fun!) and for years I've went to shows like this -outside and in very hot/humid temperatures- and every year I'm stumped on what to wear! It's hard to dress extremely cute and practical at the same time- especially since if it were up to me I'd wear dresses all the time, and a dress would clearly not be appropriate for such events. So, I would just LOVE it if you could help me find some super cute tunic/peasant tops to wear with a pair of super cute shorts and some Chucks. I'm pretty sure that's what I've settled on wearing- simple but yet so cute! I noticed in the May issue of Lucky that a similar look was in there, but I'm looking for something a little different- something a little more fun and flirty (not quite as casual)- with perhaps some cute floral prints? Anyway, I would just love your help with this! After all, I trust no other magazine more than Lucky!

xo!

There's a store in Nashville called Two Elle that orders all their Converse in sizes small enough for women, and I know they have the silver Varvatos hi-tops in all sizes!!! Check out their website, www.twoelle.com. You can also call during business hours and order over the phone. They have a huge Converse selection at the store, and they carry Varvatos styles for women that most stores don't have.

The Converse website offers them in the women's size 7! It's the smallest size they offer for this shoe.

I LOVE converse sneakers, but sadly I have trouble finding pairs that fit me. The mens sizes that convert into womens don't equate with my feet at all. I'm a 6.5 to a 7 but their idea of a mens to womens size 7 is HUGE on my foot. I have asked for the 6.5 conversion and they just don't have them. As for their actual womens sneakers I find them large as well. So needless to say I have yet to find a pair of converse that fit, in any of their styles.
