Sorry for the lapse in blogging—traveling these last few days with a busted laptop, coupled with internet issues throughout Marrakech, threw a wrench in my plans for frequent updates. I am writing now from Ibiza, where just about every other girl (and guy, come to think of it) on the street wears some kind of espadrille. They're onto something: the woven soles have a way of molding to your feet so they're super-comfortable, and the cotton canvas uppers keep you cool in the heat.
There are so many different variations on the style, and Espadrilles, Etc. has a thorough selection of authentic Spanish imports. I love the "Alberta" flats with navy pinstripes, but if you want some extra height, the "Stella" wedges,
with a flax-colored band across the toe and a walkable
one-and-a-half-inch
heel (good even on all the hilly cobblestone streets in the old part of
the city, where I'm staying), matches everything. There are tons more
to choose from the website's large selection.
