Mining The Sale: Virginia Johnson

2009_08_viriginiajohnson.jpg
Many of you know I'm a huge fan of Virginia Johnson's gauze wool shawls—I pretty much never leave the house without one. I just noticed that a bunch of them are half off on her site, and in the product descriptions it says that the material she used this season is even softer than it's been in the past, making them that much more tempting. I love it in smoky purple floral, and also the apricot version with a cool, half-botanical, half-geometric print. Both are now $97. The totes and cosmetics cases also half off. For gifting purposes, I suggest stocking up on toiletry bags like this one, marked down to $16.

Mining The Sale: Opening Ceremony

oc1_0820.jpgOn Opening Ceremony's site just now I was surprised to find they still have a lot of spring stuff that's majorly on sale. Among the deals is this Vena Cava dress covered with hand-stitched metallic pyramids and beads. This is one of those pieces you're guaranteed to rack up compliments on every time you wear it, and it's been reduced from $750 to $225—a totally justifiable price for something so beautifully detailed and special. I'm also loving the sporty but sophisticated shawl collar anorak (I'd use this to add some edge to a floaty slipdress underneath—now $198 from $660) and this sweet soft pink knit shift with a banded skirt, both by the store's house label ($87, was $290). Also not worth missing: this pouffy, awesomely tutu-like mini by Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair ($95, was $315).

40 Percent Off At BestowBoutique.com

2009_08_bestowboutique.jpg
Gift shopping site bestowboutique.com is taking 40 percent off everything in their "for the bride" section from now through October 15th. Even if you're not in the market for the soon-to-be-married, it's still a really good sale, for universally useful things like this Marseilles soap delicates wash (I'd almost just buy it for the packaging, though I've actually tried it and the stuff is great), DL & Co's gorgeous, exotic-scented candles, and this cheeky, cute embroidered silk sleep mask. There's no coupon code to enter—the discount will be applied at checkout.

A Stripes Epidemic at Lucky HQ and The Best $15 Tee Ever

2009_08_stripedshirts.jpg
I don't know what it is with us Lucky girls and stripes. It's truly an office-wide obsession, and none of us can get enough! I definitely share Anne's love of striped dresses, and am equally hooked on nautical, French-looking tees. Just now at Urban Outfitters I found another one to add to my collection: BDG's Boatneck Sailor Stripe Top. It comes in the essential cream and black, as well as cream and red (I'm all about sticking to classic colors when it comes to these), and the fit is nice and relaxed. Since the price has been slashed to $14.99, I'm thinking about snapping up the pair and making them my uniform for the rest of the summer.

Mining The Sale: 70% off Kirna Zabete

2009_08_kzsale.jpgThere are lots of deals to be had at the moment on Kirna Zabete's website, though I don't expect their stock to last. My picks: Pierre Hardy's navy-on-navy metallic nylon weekender, which would also make for just about the chicest gym bag ever (was $565, now $169.50), and Stella McCartney's wear-it-for-years black silk cocktail dress (was $795, now $238.50).

Mining The Sale: Jayson Home and Garden

2009_07_jaysonbox.jpg
Click here for a slideshow of 5 more of my favorite discounted items from the site.

One of the best destinations for chic, offbeat housewares, Jayson Home and Garden, is hosting a summer sale, now through August 10th. The aesthetic here gets at a really good blend of exotic-modern-glamourous-classic. Take this handmade Suzani print box (was $225, now $135) for instance—I don't even know what I'd use it for (jewelry? makeup? desk supplies?) but I really like the idea of seeing this on my countertop.

Sale At MZ Wallace!

2009_07_mzwallace.jpg
MZ Wallace is in the middle of a big sale, and it's a good one. Among the things I'm having a hard time saying no to are these red ikat cosmetics bags (the same ones Elise wrote about a couple months ago, only now they're on major markdown!). They're made of water and stain resistant cloth, and the interiors are lined in satin with extra pockets for organizing your stuff. The medium size is half off at $20, and there's a larger one available for $25. I know it's crazy early, but these would be a great thing to stock up on now and give to your girlfriends for Christmas. I'm also really digging this scallop edged clutch made from eco-friendly, hand-crocheted raffia (was $195, now $78)—it's the perfect, beachy accessory for a balmy evening out.

Liberty Florals On Sale

2009_07_liberty.jpg
It's not too late to get in on the trend—a bunch of Steven Alan's sweet Liberty florals have made their way to the sale racks. I love it all, from the shrunken oxfords (I'm seeing this with rolled up sleeves and a lace trimmed camisole underneath, plus a battered denim mini; were $158, now $109) to the boxy tanks (were $98, now $59) to the swingy button-front high-waist skirts (were $205, now $79).

Big Sale At Bergdorfs

marnisandals.JPGI read on Madison Avenue Spy—a blog that tracks the sales at fancy uptown stores—that Bergdorf Goodman had started another round of markdowns, so I went to see if the Marni sandals I'd admired a couple months ago were still there. Not only did they have them, but their price had come down from $620 to a WAY more manageable $217. Score! There's a lot left on the sale racks—designer shoes have been reduced to 65 percent off, and designer clothing has been slashed by 75 percent.

Mission: Find White Jeans, Accomplished

helmutlang.whitejeans.jpgI was on a real tear to settle my white jeans search this weekend. I zigzagged all over the city on Friday and Saturday trying on as many as I could find, and the winner was the cropped skinnies by Helmut Lang I got on sale at Barneys. They're as close to perfect as I could find: made of really soft cotton with a nice amount of stretch, the waist hits the right not-too-low, not-too-high spot (plus the wide waistband makes them that much more comfy), and they're completely devoid of any sort of embellishment or branding. They're really well cut, with a fit that's slim without being overly tight, and since they're cropped at the ankle, I don't have to worry about mucking them up against my shoes. All in all, just what I was looking for.
