lagarconne.com last night I came across
the Golden Goose boots I've been coveting forever. They're a classic, elegant equestrian style with a rock and roll spin, with leather straps, metal buckles, and a gorgeously distressed finish. They're completely handmade, and the craftsmanship is beyond exquisite. At $1274 they're also ludicrously expensive, and as much as I love to daydream about all the outfits I'd pair them with (one of my favorites involves an exotic embroidered white dress and shrunken denim jacket), and even though I know I'd wear them for years and years if I won the lottery and actually sprang for them, at that price they'll probably never be anything more than a fantasy for me.
So anyway. Indulge me. I want to know: money and all reason aside, if you could add anything to your closet what would it be?

Where do you inadvertently splurge? Finally, A City Appropriate, Super Cozy Shearling BootGolden Goose

Years ago I succumbed to the exceptional warmth and comfort of
Ugg boots. I'm a huge wimp about cold weather, and in the dead of winter there are few things that can relieve that icy, chilly feeling as satisfyingly. I love them, but really just for padding around the house or running down the block to the closest bodega—I find them too casual and beachy (growing up in San Diego, all the surfers wore these) for day-to-day. This year, I have my eye on
No. 6's Aviator Shearling Boots. This knee high style is also completely lined in shearling (like Uggs, you can slip them on barefoot), and the slim shaft, cool, crackly leather, and clog heel add up to a much more sleek look. They're water-repellent too, so you don't have to worry about taking them out in the slush. Pair them with a fisherman's sweater and skinny jeans for weekends, or for a night out, try a swingy wool dress and tights.

One of my main shopping goals in Marrakech was to score at least one pair of colorfully embroidered leather babouches. Halfway through the trip I found an amazing stall in the souk that specialized in them. My husband, to whom the shopkeeper for whatever reason turned when it came time to negotiate a price, got a little too carried away while haggling and ended up calling the merchant's bluff and walked away. An unfortunate bout with food poisoning (note to the rest of you: no matter how delicious street sausages might be, it's probably best to pass) I got the following day made it impossible to go back.

Sorry for the lapse in blogging—traveling these last few days with a busted laptop, coupled with internet issues throughout Marrakech, threw a wrench in my plans for frequent updates. I am writing now from Ibiza, where just about every other girl (and guy, come to think of it) on the street wears some kind of
espadrille. They're onto something: the woven soles have a way of molding to your feet so they're super-comfortable, and the cotton canvas uppers keep you cool in the heat.

I read on
Madison Avenue Spy—a blog that tracks the sales at fancy uptown stores—that
Bergdorf Goodman had started another round of markdowns, so I went to see if the
Marni sandals I'd admired a couple months ago were still there. Not only did they have them, but their price had come down from $620 to a WAY more manageable $217. Score! There's a lot left on the sale racks—designer shoes have been reduced to 65 percent off, and designer clothing has been slashed by 75 percent.

The Soho fashion mecca recently kicked off a

major sale, and there's a lot to soak in. I'm loving
this Gaultier bandeau bikini—verdict's still out on whether or not I'm actually gutsy enough to pull it off, but the print is such a cool, original mix of stripes and intricately layered feathers.
From Proenza Schouler, there's this elegant strapless top done up in oyster-colored silk (especially chic with white jeans for a summer evening out), and I can never resist a classic French girl top, especially one made from cashmere as fine

and lightweight as
this piece by Lutz & Patmos. Meanwhile,
these Repetto flats with metallic polka dots
are kind of nutty, but coupled with canary yellow suede they're so uplifting it's hard to resist.
Tobi.com is offering 40 percent off the

entire site through 11:59pm PST tonight with code "GETOUT40". I just used it to order a replacement pair of
low-top white Chucks and a bottle of
lime hand wash from Malin and Goetz (possibly the best, freshest-smelling soap ever). There was plenty more that tempted me though—particularly since the discount works even on sale items and shipping is free—

from
these marine blue Havaianas to
this silk mini with an exuberant floral print by See by Chloe.

Rain is in the forecast today in
New York City for what feels like the millionth day in a row, and to combat my depression, I spent the morning poking around at all the different rain boot offerings out there. The biggest surprise comes from London Fog, a company I hadn't given much thought to since the 80's, when their
outerwear line peaked in popularity. They're now doing
these slick high-gloss boots with little wedges that are totally waterproof. They look refreshingly like regular boots as opposed to rain gear, which means you could wear them all day and not feel like you're clunking around in big, heavy galoshes.
Neiman Marcus just took another 25 percent off already reduced items. There's still a ton to choose from. Here are the pieces I'm dying to get my hands on, all under $200:

1)
Nanette Lepore Jump Rope Dress, was $260, now $117. A sweetly cut dress emboldened with graphic black and white stripes—such a great day-to-night piece.
2)
Rebecca Taylor Paisley Rhapsody Bohemian Dress, was $435, now $195.75. I've been coveting this 70's-glam silk dress for months and now it's finally on sale! Don't you love when that happens?!

3)
Tory Burch Ioanna Dress, was $385, now $144.75. The exotic abstract print and crimson palette are

attention-getting in the chicest way possible.
4.
Splendid Striped Tank, was $49, now $18.75. I'm always a sucker for a striped top, but the watermelon color and twist on the back makes this an especially good one.

5.
Stuart Weitzman Serpent-Embossed Wedge, was 298, now $150. Loving moderate-heeled wedges, and this one seems sufficiently dressy and comfy to wear just about anywhere.
Reader Noisette asked for help in tracking down cute gold
wedges to wear to a summer wedding—more specifically, something delicate with no more than a three inch heel. Here's a round-up of my favorites:

1)
Etienne Aigner Rory Sandal, $70. The braided detail adds a touch of earthiness, which is a great counterpoint to all the glitz.
2)
Lilly Pulitzer Inner Circle Wedge, $242. Between the basket weave

heels and the bamboo-shaped metal rings, there's a cool mix of textures happening here.
3.
Christin Michaels Adele Sandal, $145. Something about the t-strap and high-gloss metallic give these a subtly

Studio 54-ish feel.
Let me know if there's something else you've seen out there that I may have missed!
