Celeb Trend In The Making: Lolita Glasses

2009_08_heartshapedsunglasses.jpg

I just saw this picture of Drew Barrymore wearing bubblegum pink heart shaped sunglasses, something I might normally be completely appalled by and yet she manages to look so cute and fresh and happy I can't help but approve. Then I remembered that Nicole Richie was also spotted in an identical-looking red pair, also improbably adorable, and then there's Katy Perry, who turned hers into spectacles. Now I'm wondering if we're going to be seeing Valentine-ish Lolita glasses everywhere. I'm not convinced I quite have the joie de vivre to pull them off, but for those who're ready to jump on the trend, there's a range of inexpensive options in different colors available here.

40 Percent Off At BestowBoutique.com

2009_08_bestowboutique.jpg
Gift shopping site bestowboutique.com is taking 40 percent off everything in their "for the bride" section from now through October 15th. Even if you're not in the market for the soon-to-be-married, it's still a really good sale, for universally useful things like this Marseilles soap delicates wash (I'd almost just buy it for the packaging, though I've actually tried it and the stuff is great), DL & Co's gorgeous, exotic-scented candles, and this cheeky, cute embroidered silk sleep mask. There's no coupon code to enter—the discount will be applied at checkout.

A Stripes Epidemic at Lucky HQ and The Best $15 Tee Ever

2009_08_stripedshirts.jpg
I don't know what it is with us Lucky girls and stripes. It's truly an office-wide obsession, and none of us can get enough! I definitely share Anne's love of striped dresses, and am equally hooked on nautical, French-looking tees. Just now at Urban Outfitters I found another one to add to my collection: BDG's Boatneck Sailor Stripe Top. It comes in the essential cream and black, as well as cream and red (I'm all about sticking to classic colors when it comes to these), and the fit is nice and relaxed. Since the price has been slashed to $14.99, I'm thinking about snapping up the pair and making them my uniform for the rest of the summer.

Mining The Sale: Jayson Home and Garden

2009_07_jaysonbox.jpg
Click here for a slideshow of 5 more of my favorite discounted items from the site.

One of the best destinations for chic, offbeat housewares, Jayson Home and Garden, is hosting a summer sale, now through August 10th. The aesthetic here gets at a really good blend of exotic-modern-glamourous-classic. Take this handmade Suzani print box (was $225, now $135) for instance—I don't even know what I'd use it for (jewelry? makeup? desk supplies?) but I really like the idea of seeing this on my countertop.

Sale At MZ Wallace!

2009_07_mzwallace.jpg
MZ Wallace is in the middle of a big sale, and it's a good one. Among the things I'm having a hard time saying no to are these red ikat cosmetics bags (the same ones Elise wrote about a couple months ago, only now they're on major markdown!). They're made of water and stain resistant cloth, and the interiors are lined in satin with extra pockets for organizing your stuff. The medium size is half off at $20, and there's a larger one available for $25. I know it's crazy early, but these would be a great thing to stock up on now and give to your girlfriends for Christmas. I'm also really digging this scallop edged clutch made from eco-friendly, hand-crocheted raffia (was $195, now $78)—it's the perfect, beachy accessory for a balmy evening out.

Space Bags: Can Anyone Vouch?

2009_07_spacebag.jpgHave you guys tried Space Bags—you know, those as-seen-on-TV storage gizmos that seal and smoosh clothes down into really thin, airtight stacks? I'm contemplating putting in a rush order to help get everything to fit in my carry-on, but I don't know if that's me just being an infomercial sucker (I also recently fell for the ShamWow which was a bit of a disappointment). Thoughts??

Got Anything To Add To Decorno's Packing List?

photo1.jpgToday I took out my suitcase to start the process of packing for my Spain-Morocco trip. Coincidentally, I also just stumbled on this post by Decorno, one of my favorite design bloggers, who's off to Italy for three weeks and shared what she's bringing—impressively, it all fits into a carry-on backpack. I'm pretty fanatical about not checking in luggage, and I was psyched to read her packing list, which is disciplined but not overly skimpy (she took five pairs of shoes!). Now I'm inspired to bring at least one black dress (probably the brilliantly wrinkle-proof one I have by DVF), and am reconsidering my No Nice Handbag travel rule. I was also reminded to stash an extra nylon tote for shopping and to take to the beach. I'm all about the ones from Flip and Tumble, which are sturdy but weigh next to nothing and fold up into a little ball that will easily fit into my day bag. They're a bargain too at $9 each (or $8 if you buy 3-6, $7 if you get more than 7). If you guys have any more packing tricks/must-haves, by all means let me know!

Must-Have Summer Tees Under $20!

garnethill.sailor.tee.jpgI never get sick of striped sailor tees. I've been wearing my cream and navy one from L.L. Bean non-stop this summer (often with threadbare cargo shorts and a tribal necklace to keep the look from erring too preppy), and would love to order a second if their stock in all the classic colors weren't all but depleted. I just came across Garnet Hill's version, which has the requisite boatneck, three quarter sleeves, and boxy fit, and it's been marked down to only $18. It's also offered in a bunch of different hues, my favorite of which is the graphic black and off-white.

Mega Sale On Malia Mills Swimwear!

maliamills.bandeau.jpgI've been looking for a new bathing suit maliamills.bikinibottom.jpgto take with me for the Majorcan portion of my upcoming trip. I just discovered that Malia Mills did an exclusive collection for Martin + Osa, which consists of a bunch of simply cut mix-and-match pieces in a pared down palette. And amazingly, it's all half off! I really like this 70's-ish bandeau top (was $54.50, now $27.25), which can be tied three different ways—around the neck, over the shoulders, or in a bow. I'm always looking for bikini bottoms that are neither too skimpy nor at all matronly, and these look like they offer just the right maliamills.geoprint.jpgamount of coverage (shown at top right with the triangle halter, both now $24.75). Besides black, each style also comes in a smoky blue and muted eggplant, as well as this geometric print in black and turquoise. If you're looking for a one piece, there's a really maliamills.onepiece.jpggood bandeau option (was $99.50, now $49.75)  which again, hits the same mark of covered up but sexy.

Cheap Thrills

gap.skinnystripe.sock.jpgMaybe it's a holdover from being a kid, gap.colorblock.sock.jpgbut I have a real thing for patterned socks. I love letting something graphic peek out from under my cuffs—why opt for a boring solid when there are so many fun prints out there? My favorites are generally colorful and striped, and Gap has some particularly good options at the moment. Like this blue and black version, and the color blocked ones that come in these warm tropical hues. They're a bargain at $6.50 a pair, or even better, $5 each when you buy two.
