My Favorite TV Commercial Ever and Gap's New Premium Denim

gap.premium.white.jpgYesterday a friend of mine sent me a link to the Gap commercial we were both obsessed with years ago starring the ridiculously cute ballet dancer Will Kemp. Watch it. For real—is he not one of the most crush-worthy guys ever?? The same friend had also emailed me to rave about their just-launched premium denim line. I haven't checked it out yet myself, but she says the skinny jeans are the best she's ever tried, and are indeed leg-lengthening and butt-lifting as Gap's website claims. They're $69.50 and come in some really good washes, like charcoal, distressed white, and my usual go-to indigo. I'm making a run to the store this week for a closer look. For those of you out there who beat me to them, I'm curious to hear what you think too.

Pretend Money's No Object: What's Your Fashion Fantasy Piece?

goldengoose.boots.jpgSurfing lagarconne.com last night I came across the Golden Goose boots I've been coveting forever. They're a classic, elegant equestrian style with a rock and roll spin, with leather straps, metal buckles, and a gorgeously distressed finish. They're completely handmade, and the craftsmanship is beyond exquisite. At $1274 they're also ludicrously expensive, and as much as I love to daydream about all the outfits I'd pair them with (one of my favorites involves an exotic embroidered white dress and shrunken denim jacket), and even though I know I'd wear them for years and years if I won the lottery and actually sprang for them, at that price they'll probably never be anything more than a fantasy for me.

So anyway. Indulge me. I want to know: money and all reason aside, if you could add anything to your closet what would it be?

How Old Is Too Old To Be Wearing A Mini?

2009_08_lhutton.jpgMy birthday is this week and I'm pondering what, fashion-wise, it means to get older. Like, once you hit your 30's, are things like patent leather Mary Janes and trapeze dresses just infantilizing? Or even worse, if I don't retire my miniskirts soon am I going to look like a cougar?? I've never liked the idea of sticking to rules when it comes to getting dressed, but there's definitely something to be said about aging gracefully, a la Lauren Hutton, who at 65 is still one of the most gorgeous and flawlessly put together women out there. What do you guys think?

Space Bags: Can Anyone Vouch?

2009_07_spacebag.jpgHave you guys tried Space Bags—you know, those as-seen-on-TV storage gizmos that seal and smoosh clothes down into really thin, airtight stacks? I'm contemplating putting in a rush order to help get everything to fit in my carry-on, but I don't know if that's me just being an infomercial sucker (I also recently fell for the ShamWow which was a bit of a disappointment). Thoughts??

Got Anything To Add To Decorno's Packing List?

photo1.jpgToday I took out my suitcase to start the process of packing for my Spain-Morocco trip. Coincidentally, I also just stumbled on this post by Decorno, one of my favorite design bloggers, who's off to Italy for three weeks and shared what she's bringing—impressively, it all fits into a carry-on backpack. I'm pretty fanatical about not checking in luggage, and I was psyched to read her packing list, which is disciplined but not overly skimpy (she took five pairs of shoes!). Now I'm inspired to bring at least one black dress (probably the brilliantly wrinkle-proof one I have by DVF), and am reconsidering my No Nice Handbag travel rule. I was also reminded to stash an extra nylon tote for shopping and to take to the beach. I'm all about the ones from Flip and Tumble, which are sturdy but weigh next to nothing and fold up into a little ball that will easily fit into my day bag. They're a bargain too at $9 each (or $8 if you buy 3-6, $7 if you get more than 7). If you guys have any more packing tricks/must-haves, by all means let me know!

What Kind Of Underwear Wearer Are You?

1132.jpgI happened to call my friend Iman in LA last night as she was running to the Only Hearts store to stock up on lingerie. Turns out it's something of a uniform for her—she swears by their Second Skins line and wears it daily ("pretty yet super-comfortable and totally disappears under whatever you have on" she says). She also acknowledged her compulsion for matching undergarments, a concept I find kind of fascinating, if only because I'm the complete opposite and have never coordinated undies a day in my life. To me it sounds like a lot of effort/extra laundry (does anyone really wash a bra after every wear?), though Iman's formula is this: for every one bra, she buys 4 pairs of underwear (3 boy shorts and 1 thong to be exact). Now I'm curious: what about the rest of you? Do you guys go the matchy-matchy lingerie route or are you content mixing things up?

White Jeans: The Hunt Continues

erez.jpgSo it turns out my white jeans search is still ongoing. I had really high hopes for the J Brands I ordered, but they ended up being too big in the waist and way too low. I realize now that shopping for white jeans isn't as easy as I'd thought. They need to be sufficiently thick, to avoid transparency issues, and I'd like some that are nice and lean (I'm open to a skinny or straight leg) but not too tight (pale + overly clingy = not good). I also prefer a mid to high rise waist, and I always avoid an excess of embroidery or any sort of obvious branding. I've heard people rave about J. Crew's matchstick style, which might be next on my list. Have you guys tried them? And if so, do you think they'll fit my criteria?

The Great Jumpsuit Debate Goes On

joes.jumpsuit.jpgWhile I'm certainly not the first to ponder wearing a jumpsuit, on a personal level I hadn't really taken the trend seriously until I saw this version by Joe's Jeans. There's no mistaking the fact that this is, as Jenn once described, "a full-on, neck-to-leg, pants-attached-to-a-top onesie"—a tough look to pull off beyond infancy. To make things even riskier, it's made entirely of denim, which could've easily gone wrong in a Texas tuxedo/Britney and Justin way back when at the VMA's kind of way. And yet, with the feminine spaghetti straps, clean, dark wash, and loose fit, there's something more elegant and grown-up about this piece than the other iterations I've seen. I also think the bare top, relaxed bottoms, and floor-sweeping length amount to a more flattering silhouette than most. I'm imagining it with some kind of flat (maybe a suede ballet shoe, or leather t-straps) for running around on the weekends. Who's with me on this one?

Sandal Crisis! I Need Your Help!

Confession: Cristina asked me for help in tracking down shoes for her trip to Vietnam and I failed miserably. I've been looking all over for the past month, and I'm still stumped. And by now it's been so long she's already back from her trip! I know it's too late but I'm determined to give her some options. She was looking for "cute but EXCEEDINGLY comfortable sandals (we're talking, like, orthopedic here)"—a manageable challenge. The part where I fell apart came when she also requested that said sandals be water-proof, since it rains most afternoons this time of year in Hanoi. Aah! Rain is my Kryptonite! As soon as it starts to drizzle I panic about getting dressed, especially when it comes to footwear (I blame my San Diego upbringing, where it rains like once every two years). So I defer to the rest of you out there to complete my mission: have you seen any devastatingly chic, amazingly comfortable sandals that also happen to be water-repellent??

What's In Your Purse?

It's totally a nosy question I know, but I'm just curious about what kind of stuff (and how much of it) you guys carry around with you everyday. I try to keep my day-to-day formula fairly simple:

1. Wallet
2. Keys
3. Planner (am I the only one out there still using a paper calendar?)
4. BlackBerry
5. Paul & Joe Blotting Paper (not only is the case adorable but there's also a built-in mirror)
6. Pen
7. Aquaphor (which, most of you agree, is really the best lip balm out there)
8. Digital Camera
9. Mints

Your turn!
