Odd things I buy compulsively: Milagros

milagro_main.gifEverytime I go to Mexico, or to a Mexican import store, my hand always wafts over the tray of Milagros by the cash register. And invariably I buy at least two (I arrange them on the edge of my kitchen counter which means that they're constantly slipping behind the cabinetry, which is why I feel compelled to constantly replenish my stock). I think they're really beautiful and I love any permutation of hammered tin—plus, they just look so old-world. I can't remember ever seeing them in necklace form, which is why I flipped for these gold necklaces by Erica Weiner. I want at least three, to wear all at once. Sale on at The Violet Hour

TVH00096.jpgSan Antonio based boutique The Violet Hour is unloading tons of items at up to 75% off. I would totally snap up these red Les Prairies de Paris heels (now $125, were $365) if they were in my size, and this well-cut tulip-shaped skirt by Yaya Aflalo (now $55, was $220) looks like a great wardrobe staple.

My new variation on the cardigan...

erez.jpgIs actually an old trick, made popular by all sorts of people, including Kurt Cobain. While normally I'm never without some sort of thin cardigan, now that it's warm I'm never without some sort of super-soft, washed-to-death oxford. It serves exactly the same purpose, but is lighter and cooler for summer. I've been wearing them buttoned low over tanktops and tucked into full-skirts, or open over a camisole or t-shirt. It's arguably warm enough now just to wear a tanktop on its own, but I hate being without at least two layers on top. I think J. Crew has the best options—I buy from the mens department online, where you can snag X-Smalls.

Loomstate for Keds: Worth the pricetag

Picture 9.jpegOk, so these aren't exactly a bargain ($75), but they sure are cutePicture 8.jpeg. And the collaboration (a team effort from Loomstate, Keds, and Barneys) is not only crafted from 100% organic materials, but it also benefits The Organic Exchange, a non-profit that focuses on the growing of earth-friendly cotton. Because wouldn't it be nice if all cotton were inherently eco someday?

Consider me obsessed: Seneca Rising

SENE-WD9_V1.jpgThere's nothing better than an interestingly-cut collection that's senr9a17sa.jpgreally, really well-priced. Which is why I'm more or less in love with everything that Seneca Rising makes. It's one of those affordable lines that's made it onto the racks of some of the best boutiques—Vionnet, Oak, Otte, Pixie Market—where it mingles with decidedly more expensive labels. You can find bits and pieces here and there, Revolve arguably has the widest selection. I'm loving this slouchy mini, as well as this gorgeous tribal print maxi dress (slightly pricier at $130).

How much do you think these earrings cost?

bboutique111008_038web.jpgNot a whole lot, considering that I think they look quite expensive (they're $30). I love that Martine Wester took the time to put these cut crystals in a simple, but legitimately fancy looking setting, and I love that they're ever-so-slightly dropped. I always think that earrings that hang close to the ear lobe look the best. This seems like the sort of pair that would work awesomely well during the day. (Since they're oversized, they might look like they're trying too hard if worn for fancy occasions at night.) Thoughts? BTW, I found this website, bestowboutique.com, by way of design blog Coco+Kelley's twitter feed—which is packed with equally awesome finds. And for tons more under $100 jewelry, click here.

A Do or a don't? Studded boyfriend blazer

Picture 4.jpegI'm feeling a wee bit comatose today, which might explain why I'vePicture 3.jpeg been staring at the Express homepage for a good 20 minutes. Normally I make pretty snap judgments on style, but I feel totally stymied by this one. On the page in question is this boyfriend-style blazer—neatly cut in a way that looks super flattering—with studded lapels. I can't wrap my head around whether this ornamentation is a good thing or a bad thing. I think the black on black version has its appeal too, though the bejeweled pockets arguably take it too far. Both are just under $100 (as are all of these dresses). What do you guys think?

Under $25: Black denim leggings

MD-M01028013392000_c338_front.jpgLast week, commenter Pomellyop asked for a good resource for budget-friendly, legging-like black denim. Her quandary being that she's tired of buying jeans that are too tight in the thigh or too loose in the calf. While our resident denim expert Noria Morales swears by surf brands like Volcom and Roxy for inexpensive, well-cut jeans, her favorite super-affordable legging resource is actually a junior brand called Tyte. I love this dark rinse cropped pair, though it looks like this other option is true black. I would probably hem them to above the ankle, too. Have any of you tried this brand before?

Glacier-inspired tableware, plus Pendleton secret source

70977_MULT_DT.JPGAs mentioned, I was in Glacier National Park earlier this week, where I 71187_NAVY_DT.JPGstayed at Many Glacier, which is this genius, Alpen-inspired lodge buried in the park. They have an extensive and varied gift shop there, which I've loved—and shopped—since I was a child. Besides all the necessary sundries like mosquito repellent and sunscreen and the requisite wall of logo-emblazoned t-shirts, the shop carried loads of Pendleton, including a host of homewares I'd never seen before. I bought multiple mugs, which were wrapped in the Chief Joseph print, not because they'll be really fun to carry back on the plane, but because I've never seen them before. And while they don't have the exact ones on the Pendleton website, they do have the Glacier print in a travel cup, plus this really gorgeous platter. And on the same bent, while browsing around the big trading post in 541977.jpgBrowning, Montana, I found a Pendleton-fabric bomber jacket made by a company called Kraff—it looks like they use all the iconic patterns in their own range of products. This $30 "Bingo Bag" is pretty amazing.

If I were a necklace...

MVeil-GemSpecF.jpgThis is the necklace I would be. It's a tiny bit price-y ($150), but I think it's an a-mazing statement piece, and thanks to its rainbowed nature, something I could wear all the time. (Impossible not to coordinate when it hits every hue, right?). The rest of the Mended Veil collection—almost all of which seems to be available at Wendy Yao's inspirational Los Angeles boutique, Ooga Booga—is equally excellent. I've never seen something like this: Coolly off-kilter and fashion-forward, but rooted in kindergarten too. It's on pre-order, but I think I just might add my name to the list. What do you guys think?
