Modern Family's Julie Bowen's Favorite Things

2012 was a busy year for our April cover girl, Julie Bowen, who scooped up several awards (including an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) for her role on ABC's comedy series Modern Family.

The show, which features an eclectic, lovable cast (including Lucky's November 2012 cover girl Sofia Vergara) first aired back in 2009 and is now in its fourth season. On the show, Bowen plays your average stressed-out homemaker Claire Dunphy, a mom resolving daily family dramas and caring for her awkward husband Phil (Ty Burrell) and their thee children: scatterbrained teen Haley, intellectual Alex and quirky son Luke.

At the SAG Awards earlier this year, where Modern Family won the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, Bowen wore a floor-length black leather dress with embellished sleeves by Johanna Johnson. Back in September at the 2012 Emmy Awards, she opted for a more colorful look with a vibrant lime green strapless Monique Lhuillier gown. As for our personal favorite red carpet looks of Bowen's? Her dramatic plunge-front black beaded Oscar de la Renta from the 2011 Emmys and the ultra-feminine nude Reem Acra gown she chose for the same awards ceremony in 2008.

"[My diamond stud earrings] were a gift from my mother. But they used to be hers. What happened was she actually lost one of them and reported it to the insurance company, and they replaced them, but then we found the one she lost at my house. And she called them and said we found them, and they said to just keep them. They remind me of my mother, who is a real salt-of-the-earth Midwesterner, and how when we were growing up she would tell the waitress she undercharged us, or make us carry a piece of candy we stole back to the store. They are about a carat and change— perfection."
