Suno: Prints Charming

If there’s one thing Suno is known for, it’s vivid, offbeat—and downright exuberant—prints. Launched in 2008 by Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty, Suno creates bold designs from vintage African textiles that were produced in Kenya. The brand’s vibrant, exotic pieces have quickly won over editors and celebs alike (devotees include Michelle Williams and Rachel Bilson).

While eclectic-chic motifs remain a major part of the label’s DNA, things are headed in a more polished direction this season. “There’s a hyper-feminine aspect to the collection—I was inspired by fairy tales turned slightly dark,” says Beatty of Suno’s resort line, which features petal-print silk dresses and daring striped and floral trousers in a moody violet, pink and black palette. “For me, the challenge—and the fun—is in taking these brilliant patterns and making them suitable for everyday life.” Job very well done.
