Totally chic with a pencil skirt, effortlessly cool with skinny jeans—Equipment’s long-sleeved button-up is a closet staple to cherish. Another reason it’s worth treasuring? The brand almost ceased to exist. Launched in France in 1976 by Christian Restoin, Equipment was quickly adopted by tomboy-glam icons like Katharine Hepburn for its slimmed-down, sumptuously silky take on the classic men’s shirt. After two successful decades, Restoin shuttered the label to pursue other opportunities. Lucky for us, a 2010 relaunch with Serge Azria (of Joie and Current/Elliott) brought it back into the spotlight. Today’s Equipment marries the impeccable cut of the original with soft colors and vibrant prints—think buttery yellow, neon-bright python and classic leopard—that feel completely now. The sleek design has also been embraced by a new generation of style stars, from Diane Kruger to Miranda Kerr to Kate Moss, all of whom embody that certain je ne sais quoi the brand is all about.
