Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason’s vibrant, lighthearted designs make us feel as giddy as a kid in FAO Schwarz. Which is fitting, since their spring collection is inspired by the work of toy-designer-turned-artist Sean O’Meallie. “His handcarved, brightly lacquered wooden sculptures are situated somewhere between sweet and naughty—a great combination,” says Helgason of the visionary’s colorful, cartoony artwork. The same playful sense permeates the duo’s clothing, which includes A-line skirts wrapped in ribbon-like stripes, graphic balloon-animal-pattern jackets and Crayola-hued sweatshirts emblazoned with retro varsity letters. And the best part, according to Helgason: “You can put them all together to create a striking look, or take them apart and wear each as a special statement piece.”
