Kim France
Kim France, who hails from Houston, Texas, is the editor-in-chief of Lucky, the award-winning magazine about shopping and style. Lucky provides women with the best to buy in fashion, beauty, home, and more.
Since launching Lucky, Kim has led the magazine to a slew of industry awards, including Adweek's "Start up of the Year" in 2002 and Advertising Age's "Magazine of the Year" in 2003. Lucky has consistently appeared on Adweek's "Hot List" since 2002. In addition, Kim was named one of New York's "Most Powerful Women" by the New York Post in 2004 and was selected for Crain's "40 under 40." Since Lucky's launch in December 2000, circulation has gone from 500,000 to over 1 million, proving to be one of the most successful launches in Condé Nast history.
Prior to her appointment as editor-in-chief, Ms. France was the editor-at-large for Spin, from 1996 to 1998. In 1994, she joined New York as a senior editor and was quickly promoted to deputy editor in 1995.
Ms. France began her magazine career in 1988 at the iconoclastic 7 Days, the defunct NYC weekly. In 1990, she joined Sassy as a staff writer. In 1993, she worked at Elle, where she was in charge of the magazine's entertainment coverage.
Over the course of her career, Ms. France has written about popular culture, music, and women's issues for numerous publications. She has contributed profiles, features, and reviews to Vibe, Rolling Stone and Spin as well as Allure, The New York Times Book Review, Mademoiselle, Harper's Bazaar, The New York Times Magazine and The Village Voice. She also served as editorial consultant for Microsoft's Sidewalk.com.
Ms. France is a graduate of Oberlin College (1987).
